Ready to move beyond flatwater and build confidence in moving water? This two-day course is designed for paddlers who already feel comfortable on calm lakes and are looking to expand their skills into rivers and current.

Learning to maneuver effectively in moving water opens the door to new routes, greater versatility, and more reliable boat control in all conditions.

The course begins with core river skills including catching eddies, entering current, and navigating simple river features. As the group progresses, instruction may move to a more challenging venue in the afternoon based on skill level, comfort, and goals.

This course can be taken in either a canoe or kayak, and is suitable for solo or tandem paddlers.

Topics include:

  • Eddies, eddy turns, and peel outs

  • Reading current and river features

  • Basic river navigation and decision-making

  • Developing control in dynamic water conditions
